The Bell 206B-L4 was derived from the D-250, which was originally proposed to the army
in the Light Observation Helicopter program (LOH) in the 1960s.
The Hughes OH-6 was selected by the army and Bell went about improving the design, particularly
improving the notoriously ugly looks of the D-250 and adding cabin space.
The redesigned D-250 was named the 206 and sold commercially in several variants
—including this 206b-L4—until 2010.
The Bell 505 is considered the modern replacement for the 206.
