Robinson R22

The R22 has a relatively low cost of ownership, making it the most popular helicopter for training pilots. The low price also attracts experimenters; Boeing and DARPA have modified R22s for unmanned experiments. R22s are also frequently used on ranches to help manage livestock.

The R22 is easy to transport. It can land on a trailer and be pulled on standard roads without special equipment, blade folding or other significant modification to the aircraft.

There are many variants of R22 with different engines, floats and avionics. Searchlights and loudspeakers have been added for police use.
