The UH-1Y was designed to replace the UH-1N for a variety of military missions including attack, escort, search and rescue and reconnaissance.
It can execute these missions in day, night and adverse weather conditions.
The UH-1Y shares many components with the AH-1Z, simplifying logistics and maintenance of the pair.
While the AH-1Z is better suited for attack, the UH-1Y has two stations for rocket firing and two pintle mounts for guns.
The helicopter includes a forward-looking infrared system, a helmet-mounted sight display, a glass cockpit, and plentiful communication and navigation equipment.
