Description

This calculator estimates the induced velocity and power consumption of a helicopter rotor using Glauert's induced velocity equation.

Equations

The following equations are used to estimate the induced velocity \( v_i \) and power consumption \( P \) from the input air density \( \rho \), rotor radius \( R \), thrust \( T \), forward airspeed \(u\), and vertical airspeed \(w\).

\[ A = \pi R^2 \] \[ T =2v_i \rho A \sqrt{u^2 + (w+v_i)^2} \] \[ v_i = \sqrt{T / 2\rho A} \] \[ P = T (v_i +w) \]
